My Name is Earl Bio
My Name Is Earl is an American comedy created by Greg Garcia, which first ran from September 20, 2005 to May 14, 2009 in the US, being produced by 20th Century Fox Television.
My Name is Earl is set in the fictional Camden County, starring Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, Jamie Pressly, Eddie Steeples and Nadine Velazquez. Lee is cast as Earl J. Hickey, whose recently won $100,000 lottery ticket is lost as he is hit by a car. In the hospital bed, affected by morphine, he starts to believe in the American version of karmic retribution and decides to change his life. He makes a list with the bad things he ever committed and tries to correct them, as he is certain that is the only way to accumulate positive karma. Following his first good deed, he recovers the lost $100,000 lottery ticket. As he believes that it is a sign of karma rewarding him and starts doing good deeds according to his list.
Greg Garcia, the creator and head writer of the My Name is Earl, write the pilot while was involved with another sitcom. Garcia originally offered the series to Fox, but they refused it. He went to NBC, which accepted the pilot, providing an appropriate cast could be assembled. Jason Lee was contacted for the lead role, but he was not interested initially and said no twice. Finally he changed his mind after meeting with Garcia and agreed to signup to portray Earl Hickey.
My Name is Earl premiered on September 20, 2005, earning a 6.6 rating in the United States. As by the broadcast of the third episode it was obvious that the series was the highest rated of NBC's new fall offerings, they ordered a full season. In its first month it was the best rated new sitcom of the season broadcasted on any network, and thus My Name is Earl went on for a second season (2006-2007), a third (2007-2008) and a fourth (2008-2009).
NBC canceled My Name is Earl on May 19, 2009 and season four of the series ended with the capitation "To Be Continued". Although 20th Television - producer of the show - contacted FOX, ABC, TBS and TNT in order to carry on with the series they failed to reach an agreement.
The series, My Name is Earl, is being re-aired from January 30, 2010 by Ion Television.
